Shake Shack is one of New York’s most iconic fast-casual burger brands. The Hudson Yards location on the 4th floor is sleek and bright, attracting tourists and office workers alike.
The signature ShackBurger is a masterclass in the “smash burger” style—100% Angus beef with crispy edges, topped with their secret ShackSauce on a toasted potato bun. If you want something lighter, the Chicken Shack, hot dogs, and milkshakes are also popular choices.

😺What I Ordered: ShackBurger ($7.99), Chicken Shack ($9.49), Chicken Bites ($8.49), and Fresh Lemonade ($5.49).
The ShackBurger was juicy and full of beef flavor, the Chicken Shack was surprisingly tender, and the lemonade was very refreshing and tasted freshly squeezed.
Pro Tip: This location gets very busy and seating is tight. You can grab takeout and sit inside the Hudson Yards mall. Nearby attractions include The High Line, Vessel, and The Edge observation deck — all within walking distance.
📍 Hudson Yards Location
Address: Level 4, 500 W 33rd St, New York, NY 10001
Hours: Daily 11:00 AM–8:00 PM
Transit: Take the 7 train to 34 St–Hudson Yards, then walk 2 minutes.

Five Guys offers endless burger customization and generously portioned fries. Their burgers use fresh ground beef, and the fries are hand-cut daily and cooked in 100% peanut oil for a crispy finish. You’ll also find complimentary peanuts and unlimited soda refills.
The Times Square location is energetic and stays open late—perfect for a post-Broadway show meal.

😺 What I Ordered:
Cheeseburger with Grilled Mushrooms & Grilled Onions ($12.39), a Cheese Dog ($8.49), and a Regular Drink ($3.49). The burger was hearty and well-grilled, though the bun wasn’t as soft as I expected. The hot dog bun was better than the sausage itself.
Pro Tip: Regular drinks include free refills — which is a great value in Times Square.
📍 Times Square Location
Address: 253 W 42nd St, New York, NY 10036
Hours: Daily 10:00 AM–4:00 AM (A rare late-night savior!)
Transit: Times Sq–42 St subway station, 2-minute walk.

Founded in 1887 in Brooklyn, Peter Luger is one of New York’s most famous steakhouses. Known for its dry-aged USDA Prime beef, each steak is aged in-house for 4–6 weeks. The Great Neck location on Long Island offers the same legendary flavor in a slightly more spacious, classic setting.
The menu is simple because the quality speaks for itself. The Porterhouse (Steak for Two, Three, or Four) is the main event—served sizzling in clarified butter. Don’t skip the Luger’s Own Steak Sauce, which is so popular they sell it in grocery stores across the US.

😺 I visited the Great Neck location with friends for dinner.
What We Ordered: Steak for Three ($221.85), Baked Oversized Potato with Sour Cream ($9.95), Creamed Spinach ($18.95), Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail ($33.95), Sliced Tomato & Onion ($17.95), Cheesecake, and the “Holy Cow” Hot Fudge Sundae.
The steak was flavorful, though a few pieces were tougher to chew. The side dishes were fresh and tasty, and the desserts were excellent. Service was efficient and professional — no small talk, but very attentive.
Pro Tip: Reservations are strongly recommended. They accept cash only. Some servers speak quickly with strong accents, so it helps to have someone comfortable with English.
📍 Great Neck Location
Address: 255 Northern Blvd, Great Neck, NY 11021
Hours: Daily 11:45 AM–9:45 PM
Transit: Take the LIRR from Manhattan to Great Neck Station, then walk about 20 minutes or take a taxi/Uber.
📍 Brooklyn Main Location
Address: 178 Broadway, Brooklyn, NY 11211
Hours: Daily 11:45 AM–9:15 PM
Transit: Subway to Marcy Ave, 10-minute walk.

No list of American food is complete without a classic pancake house. IHOP (International House of Pancakes) is a cultural staple, famous for serving breakfast 24/7. Whether you want a midnight snack or a massive Sunday brunch, IHOP is the reliable go-to for comfort food.
It specializes in pancakes, waffles, eggs Benedict, French toast, and classic American breakfasts. A unique feature at most locations is the variety of syrups—don’t be afraid to mix and match the strawberry and butter pecan flavors on your stack!
Must-try items: House-Made Belgian Waffles, Buttermilk Pancakes

😺 I visited the Hicksville location on a weekend afternoon with a group of six. There was a line, but we were seated after about 15 minutes.
What We Ordered: Breakfast Combo – Sirloin Tips & Eggs with pancakes ($22.99) and Chicken & Waffles. The steak tips were surprisingly tender and savory, paired with crispy golden hash browns and a side of fluffy pancakes. The waffle was thick and airy with a nice crunch from the fried chicken.

Pro Tip: If you’re visiting on a weekend morning, expect a wait. However, because it’s open 24 hours, it’s a fantastic option for a late-night meal after a long day of travel.
📍 Hicksville Location
Address: 100 W Old Country Rd, Hicksville, NY 11801
Hours: Open 24 hours
Transit: Take the LIRR to Hicksville Station, 12-minute walk.

The Times Square location stands on the former site of the historic comedy club The Improv (founded in 1963). The original brick wall stage remains as decoration, featuring names like Woody Allen and Robin Williams.
Don Giovanni is known for brick-oven pizza, pasta, and classic Italian dishes.

😺 I loved this restaurant so much that I returned multiple times during the same trip. We ordered Mussels in Garlic & Oil Sauce ($18), Chicken Marsala ($25.03), Caesar Salad ($14.07), Tiramisu ($12.03), and Pizza Half & Half ($35). Everything was delicious, well-priced, and the staff was friendly.

Pro Tip: Paying cash gives you a 3% discount. The location is extremely convenient, near Times Square.
📍 Times Square Location
Address: 358 W 44th St, New York, NY 10036
Hours: Daily 5:00 PM–10:30 PM
Transit: Times Sq–42 St station, 3-minute walk.

Located in the heart of the Financial District (FiDi) within the Hungry Pearl food hall, Extra Sauce is known for its smash burgers, especially the Brooklyn Fried Onion Smash Burger.

😺 My friends and I each ordered the Lunch Special — a Classic Smash Burger and a Brooklyn Fried Onion Smash Burger. The beef was juicy and flavorful, the buns perfectly balanced in texture, and the waffle fries were generous. The lunch combo (a burger + a side + two sauces +a drink) is only $20 — a great deal in Manhattan.
Pro Tip: This is a perfect lunch spot if you are visiting the 9/11 Memorial, Wall Street, or taking the Statue of Liberty ferry. Since it’s inside the Urbanspace food hall, it’s a great choice for groups because there is plenty of communal seating and other vendors nearby if someone in your party wants something different.

📍 The Hungry Pearl
Address: 100 Pearl St, New York, NY 10004
Hours: Monday–Friday 11:00 AM–8:30 PM
Transit: Subway to Fulton St or Cortlandt St, 5-minute walk.

Just steps away from Central Park and the luxury boutiques of Fifth Avenue, Sip+Co is a sleek, minimalist escape from the Midtown hustle. It’s an ideal spot for a high-quality “grab-and-go” breakfast or a quiet mid-morning caffeine fix in a bright, modern setting.
It offers specialty coffee, house-baked pastries, bagels, sandwiches, and healthy salads.

😺What We Ordered: Avocado Toast ($16.50), Salmon Lox ($17.50), and Cappuccino ($9).
The Avocado Toast was a standout—the sourdough was perfectly crisp and paired beautifully with the expertly seasoned avocado. The Salmon Lox bagel was equally impressive, featuring incredibly fresh ingredients. You can tell the coffee is crafted with care; it’s rich, bold, and full of flavor.
Pro Tip: Seating is limited, and there is no restroom. It’s popular during weekday mornings.

Address: 41 W 58th St, New York, NY 10019
Hours: Mon–Fri 7:00 AM–6:00 PM; Sat–Sun 8:00 AM–6:00 PM
Transit: 57 St–7 Av station, 5-minute walk.

Nestled inside the iconic Chelsea Market, Lobster Place has been New York’s premier seafood destination since 1974. Part high-end fish market, part raw bar, it offers some of the freshest seafood in Manhattan. If you want a top-tier lobster roll without a formal sit-down price, this is your spot.
Must-try: Lobster Roll, fresh oysters, sushi.

😺 What I Ordered:
Lobster Roll Combo (4oz, $34). It comes with a generous amount of chilled lobster meat served on a warm, buttery toasted brioche bun, a small bag of chips and a cup of clam chowder. The lobster meat was sweet and succulent, the bread was toasted perfectly. The chowder was thick, creamy, and loaded with fresh clams.

Pro Tip: Weekday 6–9 PM offers half-priced oyster happy hour at the raw bar.
📍 Chelsea Market
Address: 75 9th Ave, New York, NY 10011
Hours: Daily 11:00 AM–9:00 PM (Seafood Market until 8:00 PM)
Transit: 14 St–8 Av station, 4-minute walk.

Consistently ranked by local critics as one of the best “gourmet” burgers in the city, Black Iron Burger uses Black Angus beef and creative toppings like horseradish cheddar. It’s a perfect spot if you want a sit-down meal with a beer in a casual, industrial-chic setting.

😺 What I Ordered:
The Black Iron Burger ($17.95) and BIB Chicken Tenders ($11.95). The burger was juicy and packed with beef flavor. The portion of the burger was slightly smaller than expected, but the quality made up for it. The chicken tenders were decent, though a bit dry — I’d recommend sticking with the burgers.
📍 Midtown West Location
Address: 245 W 38th St, New York, NY 10018
Hours: Mon–Fri 11:30 AM–12:00 AM; Weekends 12:00 PM–12:00 AM
Transit: Times Sq–42 St station, 5-minute walk.
Final Thoughts
Visiting New York isn’t just about Broadway, the Empire State Building, or the Statue of Liberty. It’s about tasting the world in one city — from a juicy smash burger on a Midtown street to slicing into a thick dry-aged steak in a century-old steakhouse.
